BOWS & GEAR NZ Sales
Archery at best prices in Taupo NZ and we can tune bows.
We supply good affordable archery products for all ages especially for quick learning kids and practice the art relatively freely with arrows shot into targets usually lasting hundreds of shots.
Archery improves coordination, concentration and fitness.
As far as learning is concerned compound bows are fairly stable to
shoot offhand and easy to learn. In comparison recurves are more of an art requiring the shooter to practice often to maintain the skill and reinforce shooting techinque particularly anchoring the arrow knock relative to the eye position. A
compound bow is easier to get used to due to having mechanical full draw advantages and a peep sight so
shooting bullseyes at 18m which is a competition distance after a few dozen shots zeroing in
is not unheard of and many are able to practice in their own backyard.
Want to know a good backyard target?
A simple practice target set up as good as targets that are a third of the size, cost hundreds of dollars and you made it all by yourself is get hold of a used wool pack or tonne
fertilizer bag (free or around $10 and made from the same durable nylon as the costly targets) from a farmer or farm supply store and stuff it with free waste plastic wrapping from around
pallets or hessian material commonly available as old sacks. Lay layers of polythene film sheets just inside the pack/bag material flat and parralel to the face your are going to shoot (makes it easier to pull arrows out) or layer the hessian material and
you will have a big safe tough target that will last for ages. Spray paint a few dots in a series on a face and shoot each dot instead of shooting arrows into one target spot so this saves your arrows from hitting each other. Rotate the bag around when one side wears out so this target has not just one or two faces it has five including the bottom and possibly the top. Happy shooting.
